9th Global Game Jam @ InnoGames: 20 video games in 48 hours

On the 1st weekend in February, 93 jammers developed a total of 20 new video games in just 48 hours. Thanks to the lively participation, the event hosted by InnoGames was one of the biggest German Global Game Jams of the year.

Every year since 2009, the non-profit organisation Global Game Jam, Inc.® has called on the worldwide developer community to come together to develop new video games around a centrally defined theme. Traditionally, only 48 hours are available for this.

At the invitation of Germany's leading developer of mobile and browser games, budding and professional programmers, graphic artists, game and sound designers once again gathered for what is now the 9th Global Game Jam @ InnoGames. The event took place from February 3 to 5, 2023.

Of the total of 93 jammers, 70 took the opportunity to make themselves at home in the game developer's town hall and give free rein to their creativity in 20 specially assembled teams. All other jammers participated online. Each of the teams interpreted this year's theme "Roots" in its own unique way.

In the voting that took place among all participants after the event, the team "Pawsome Beats" was able to secure 1st place with its rhythm game "BeatRoots". Here, a dog with a sense of music and beat helps the player harvest carrots, beets and radishes.

2nd place went to the game "Debugging" from team "Konservenfabrik". In this tower defense game, the heart of the forest is attacked by bugs and vermin. The heart must be protected with the help of forest spirits.

3rd place went to team "Jualaramandax" for "Growing Home". It's a visual novel that tells the story of how the protagonist makes new social connections after moving to Hamburg and explores interesting places along the way.

Details on these and all other games created can be found at https://www.igjam.eu/. Also with a view to announcing future Game Jams, it's worth keeping an eye on either the official InnoGames Game Jams website or - alternatively - the social media channels of the Hamburg-based game developer.
