Forge of Empires reaches EUR 500m lifetime revenue milestone
InnoGames’ global hit continues to gather momentum with more than EUR 250m earned in last two years of its seven-year lifetime
Today, InnoGames announced that its leading strategy game Forge of Empires reached the EUR 500m lifetime revenue mark. The highly successful title has experienced steady growth since its creation in 2012 and continues to gather momentum after more than seven years on the market. More than half of the lifetime revenue has been earned in the last two years. In addition to ongoing content updates, mobile has served as a significant contributor to the growth. Today, mobile also serves as the most popular platform among daily active users. With the achievement of the EUR 500m lifetime revenue milestone, Forge of Empires reaffirms its position as one of the most successful strategy games worldwide on desktop and mobile alike.
“Since its launch, Forge of Empires keeps surpassing our goals and expectations,” explains Armin Busen, Chief Product Officer at InnoGames. “We are all proud of this success, particularly regarding the game’s longevity. The team works hard to provide bi-weekly content updates to improve the game even more, so that it can be enjoyed by millions of loyal players around the globe.”
Forge of Empires has been played around the world for an equivalent of 235,547 years. When the game was first released, it included a total of six eras and several months’ worth of content. There are now eighteen eras with the release of Space Age Mars and over five years’ worth of content. It takes players an average of 1,548 days, or 4.2 years, to progress through the eras, during which time players can select from over 1,000 different buildings to construct. Amongst others, features like Guild Expeditions and Cultural Settlements have been added giving players even more content.
In addition to the successful transition to mobile, InnoGames ensured the longevity of the game by completing the automated conversion of Forge of Empires from Flash to HTML5, becoming the first game developer worldwide to do so using the open source compiler HAXE and without Code Freeze. This safeguards the future of the browser version of the title when Adobe discontinues support for Flash in 2020. With the HTML5-based version in modern browsers plus the mobile apps for Android and iOS, players will continue to be able to use the cross-platform availability requiring one account to be able to switch back and forth between platforms.
